Over the next few months the task force members met with the school district representatives and representatives of Houghton Mifflin. In the fall, a compromise was made. The district would adopt the Houghton Mifflin textbook for 6th to 8th grades and provide supplementary profession development on “anti-racist multicultural understandings and teaching strategies.”
For K to 3rd and 5th the district would use a different textbook series that the task force felt was stronger, if still wanting, published by TCI.
For 4th grade the district would adopt the state historical society’s 4th grade textbook and provide supplemental material.
