Network Co-sponsoring Meeting for Social Justice Schools in October

by Tara Mack last modified 2008-04-14 16:36

The Education for Liberation Network, the Leadership Institute and the New York Collective of Radical Educators are hosting a meeting for schools that have a social justice focus in October.

In the past ten years, the number of public schools that have some sort of social justice theme has grown rapidly, with at least 15 in New York City alone. But these schools are often cut off from each other, operating as isolated educational experiments. This meeting will give social justice schools an opportunity to begin building relationships with each other and to learn how to confront the challenges they face collectively.

Our goals for this meeting are to:

  • Introduce social justice schools to each other and learn how they define “social justice”
  • Give schools an opportunity to share with each other their challenges and success
  • Begin the process of building a network for social justice schools

This event is free. We encourage schools to bring representatives from across the school community—teachers, administrators, students, parents, and community-based partners. A limited amount of childcare will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis.
