Media literacy is not something
that is prioritized, and so this workshop provided an interesting technique for
using commercial books -- the kind of books that urban youth read -- to promote
functional literacy. This is definitely a workshop that would have benefited
from more time since the room was filled with people who (1) understand this
already and were looking for strategies to use in their own classroom and (2)
youth who have yet to learn to think critically about what they read for
pleasure. At the same time, the mixed environment was exploited well by the
facilitators.

This was one of the best workshops
that I could have gone to. I learned so much about media literacy and really
thought I could use this in my own work.

Very
interactive, very interesting, I especially enjoyed the fact that it was structured
in order to provide a structure/model for how to recreate the workshop.

Everything
I wanted to do. Thorough reading of "Confessions of a Video Vixen." And has
shaped emotions and beliefs. Loved it!
